St. Mark's Teachers College Kigari
Ability, Responsibility, Maturity
JAMES N. MUGUNA
CHIEF PRINCIPAL
Teacher education has changed quite a bit over the last years. Teachers have gone from scholars to men and women in a classroom to train educators from specific colleges. Over time though, the teaching profession has lost its former glory as a noble profession. It is therefore imperative that we should be able to understand teacher education in a whole new perspective which is our core mandate.
In the words of William Arthur ward “the mediocre teacher tells, the good teacher explains, the superior teacher demonstrates and the great teacher inspires.” At St. Marks Teachers College, Kigari , ours is to provide learning experiences that provide student teachers with 21st century skills which are;
Ways of thinking. Creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving, decision-making and learning
Ways of working. Communication and collaboration
Tools for working. Information and communications technology (ICT) and digital literacy
Skills for living in the world. Citizenship, life and career, and personal and social responsibility
Founded in 1910 on our current location which is in an expansive land within a serene environment, this college is deeply committed to upholding the responsibility that comes with such a rich history. We pride ourselves on providing high quality teaching programmes ideal for individuals who wish to acquire teaching skills that the local and global market needs.
As a result, we produce teachers not only equipped for the jobs in the market but also well armed to cope with life itself. True to our tradition, the students are urged to cultivate a sense of independent thinking and responsible action as guided by our Christian foundations, our motto, our mission and vision.
